I came across a little story this morning about a father telling his child that if you want to go for a run, go.

Don’t wait for company.

Keep going, and eventually the people who run the way you run will find you.

I needed that today.

I woke up at 3:30 and decided not to fight it.

Coffee.

Silence.

A short walk through the garden.

I sold two lights for Izzy to a schoolteacher before most people were awake.

Tiny win.

I’ll take it.

And Friday’s news is beginning to settle into something other than loss.

Options are coming back into view.

That matters.

I am certainly not physically running.

But I feel like I am moving again.

Maybe part of that is because I am no longer waiting for everyone around me to understand the route before I take the next step.

And maybe part of it is discovering what an extraordinary difference it makes to have a real friend.

Someone whose behavior matches the word.

Someone you don’t have to decode, manage, excuse or recover from.

Just a person who shows up like a friend.

Good company changes the weight of the road.

But it isn’t required to begin.

Maybe that’s the lesson.

Run because it is your run.

Build because it is your work.

Write because the thing is asking to be written.

The right people can find you in motion.
